Why is it important to know your ring size?
The answer is very simple.
The outside of a ring will determine its style and design, that is, the shape and appearance, engravings or pattern that it will have on its exterior. The most visual and aesthetic part is probably the reason why you have chosen to buy it =)
On the other hand, the inside of the ring will directly impact its comfort for daily use, so it is important that the size is appropriate mainly so that you can wear it, to avoid unnecessary returns or perhaps to avoid the ring being a bit loose or tight and having to wear it on a finger other than the one you originally wanted.
How to know the size of a ring
One of the easiest ways to know exactly the correct ring size is to measure the inner perimeter or measure the perimeter of the finger where we are going to put the ring. But how is it done correctly? We will tell you below 😉
1. SEWING METER TO MEASURE THE FINGER
In the case of measuring the finger, we can use a tape measure, one of those used for sewing, to calculate the circumference of your finger and in this way we will know the length in cm of the contour of the finger (its perimeter). If we measure it this way, we recommend not to tighten the tape measure too much, nor leave it too loose so that the ring does not move around 😆
Don't have a sewing tape measure to measure your finger?
If you don't have a sewing tape measure, what you can do is cut a strip of paper that measures approximately two cm wide and wrap it around your finger. Make a mark with a pen or pencil where the paper meets. Then extend the strip of paper on a ruler and you will know the value of the measurement .
We could also replicate it with a thin rope or a piece of thicker thread or whatever you find.
Now that we have the measurement of our finger in cm, we can use a ring size chart that we have designed and you can download it by clicking on the image.

2. MEASURE ANOTHER RING AND CALCULATE THE DIAMETER
To get this measurement, we can no longer do it with a finger; we must have a ring that fits us well. It is a fairly reliable way to know the exact size of the ring. How can you do it? It is very simple and we will explain it to you step by step.
The first step is to place the ring you want on a ruler or tape measure and measure the inner diameter in millimeters, NOT centimeters.
The second step will consist of using a table of values to compare the results of the measurement we make with the corresponding size.
We have designed a template with ring measurements so that you can download it and check your exact measurement.
- Print the table on an A4 sheet
- Choose any ring that you wear and that fits you well
- Place your ring on the reference circles
If the inside of the chosen ring matches any of the measurements in the table, this will be the correct measurement.
Check that the printed sheet has come out correctly (to scale) before trying your measurement. To do this, measure 21 (inner circumference) with a ruler and it should measure exactly 20mm.

3. COMMON RING SIZE TABLES FOR WOMEN
Using standardized measurements to find your ring size is never a good idea, but if you are giving a ring as a gift and have no way to measure the finger or another ring as a reference, you can use the following table of standard ring sizes according to finger type.
Most common ring sizes according to finger type
SIZE 10 |
Very thin fingers or little finger |
Inner diameter 15.9 mm |
SIZE 12 | Thin or ring fingers |
Inner diameter 16.6 mm |
SIZE 14 | Middle fingers. Ideal for the index finger |
Inner diameter 17.2 mm |
SIZE 16 | Thick fingers or thumb |
Inner diameter 17.8 mm |
What do you need to know before finding your ring size?
The ring sizes will vary depending on different factors : Climate, humidity, temperature, etc. This is why finding out small details will be useful to avoid problems when choosing the size of your rings.
He ring has to fit just right, neither too tight nor too loose. Comfortable enough to almost not feel it and for it to be part of you.
If we do not choose the right size for our ring, we will feel uncomfortable when we wear it, it may fall off and get lost, or it may be so tight that we choose not to wear it again.
Jewelry workshops can recondition almost all gold rings by reducing the size if necessary, but enlarging rings can be quite difficult or in many cases not feasible to achieve a perfect fit.
Depending on the country where you buy the ring, the size will not be the same. There is a table of equivalences for this that you should know if this is the case. We will show you some references by country.
